Learning Objectives:

At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:

1. Illustrate interrelationships between animals, humans, and the environment in zoonotic disease transmission and prevalence

2. Define the concept of “animal sentinel” and explain why dogs make good sentinels

  • Tick borne disease
  • Toxic chemical spills and environmental contamination
  • Mesothelioma caused by asbestos exposure

3. Introduce the concept of syndromic surveillance
