A woman in South Sudan is more likely to die in childbirth than finish high school. This statement from Dr. Rajiv Shah, Administrator of USAID, sure grabbed our attention.
Come learn how we can change this at an informal and informative dialogue with Congressman David Price. We'll explore the importance as well as the challenges of maintaining a robust foreign affairs budget, with special focus on girls' education.
Educating girls leads not only to reduction of poverty, but also lowered rates of HIV/AIDS infection, delay of marriage and childbearing, and improvements in health of women and children. It's hard to think of another development initiative that could more radically change the trajectory of a girl's life -- and the future of her children -- than education.
