Innovation through Collaboration
Save the date! Rock for Reproductive Rights will be on Saturday, October 15th, with featured performer Toshi Reagon and Big Lovely: http://www.toshireagon.com/. Toshi has an incredibly dynamic stage presence and is a powerful and moving performer. She is also a very committed political activist and uses her talents to support a number of social justice causes. Her music spans rock, blues, R&B, country, folk, spirituals, and funk. The New York Times described her blend as “...a love of mixing things up...[her] vocal style ranges from a dirty blues moan to a gospel shout to an ethereal croon.” She’s played with Elvis Costello, Lenny Kravitz, Ani DiFranco, Pete Seeger, Dar Williams, Lizz Wright, and her mother – Sweet Honey in the Rock co-founder Bernice Johnson Reagon.
Lead in band will be Humble Tripe, a Durham-based classical/folk/americana/punk/pop band: http://www.humbletripe.com/Humble_Tripe/Welcome.html. The classical training of several members is evident in their arrangements and attention to detail. Their harmonies are lovely, and the layering of instruments works really well.
This concert will be held this year at Motorco Music Hall in Durham: http://motorcomusic.com/. It’s a fabulous venue in Durham that has become a great community gathering place. Durham’s famous food trucks gather around the venue (which is across the street from Full Steam Brewery.) They’ve got a great bar and very nice ambience.
