​​We are excited to announce our 3 finalists and celebrate their leadership, innovation and spirit of collaboration! The winning individual will be profiled on the TGHC website and in communications materials and will be presented with the award at the Triangle Global Health Consortium's Annual Award Celebration on May 2 at Top of the Hill Restaurant in front of many of the top regional leaders in global health.

Dr. Ward Cates
Katie Grimes, MPH

Katie Grimes is currently a Public Health Analyst with RTI International, supporting research and program operations in sexual violence prevention, HIV/AIDS, global health security, and LGBT+ health. She works across 5 countries, employing evidence-based practices to improve health disparities among at-risk populations and strengthen health systems. She intends to further her commitment to global health research by returning to school to earn a doctoral degree in the near future.
Ms. Grimes is the leader and co-founder of the LGBT+ working group within RTI’s Global Gender Center: LGBT+ Rising. In this role, Ms. Grimes coordinates activities to leverage RTI’s capacity to work on LGBT+ research and programming and increase community involvement. Leading this group of 200 members, Ms. Grimes aims to develop the evidence base and enhance the effectiveness of interventions to improve the health and well-being of LGBT+ populations worldwide. Ms. Grimes has collaborated with other organizations in the Triangle to leverage resources to create a SafeZone training tailored to North Carolina businesses to promote diverse and inclusive work environments across the state of North Carolina and beyond. In addition, Ms. Grimes is the member of a multi-disciplinary team working to find a solution to methodological gaps that limit our understanding on how to reduce suicide among LGBT+ youth; this team was awarded top prize at RTI International’s Idea Kitchen 2016.
